Biography
Stone, Betty J.Betty Brown Stone, 84,formerly of Athens passed away at the Sayre House on Thursday, December 31st.
Born on September 14,1925 to Earl and Arabelle Lewis Brown of Williams Pond, Montrose,PA.
She graduated from Montrose High School in 1943, and following graduation she taught school on a " War Time Certificate " during World War 2.
Betty was employed by General Telephone CO in Sayre from 1958 - until her retirement in 1988.
She married her High School sweetheart, Norman H. Stone in 1947, he predeceased her in 1961.
Betty loved her family and her retirement joy was watching her grandchildren & friends enjoy her swimming pool.
Betty was a devoted member of the Church of the Redeemer Episcopal Church for many years.
Betty was also predeceased by her parents, her brother, William Brown , her brother-in-law George Hibbard, and 3 nephews.
She is survived by her 2 children, : Connie Stone Guiles of Sayre, and Leonard T."Pebble" Stone of Sayre, her sister Shirley Brown Hibbard of Montrose, and sister-in-law Mary Lou Brown of Indiana.
Also surviving are her grandchildren: Tracy Maynard McCutcheon ( Christopher) of Sayre,
Todd Maynard ( Libby) of South Carolina. Sarah Stone Vogell ( Travis ) of New Hampshire, and Lindsey Guiles Scanlan ( John ) of Holmes, PA.
Her great grandchildren are:Chelsea McCutcheon, Alexis, Chase, and Lia Maynard , Eli Vogell, and Connor and Braydon Scanlan.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday January 4, 2010 from 11AM - noon at the Blauvelt Funeral Home 625 Broad St., Waverly NY.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Betty will be held following calling hours at noon with the Rev. Andrea Baldyga of the Church of the Redeemer officiating.
Burial will be in Montrose Cemetery at a later time.
