Biography
Metzloff, Othel (Sally Orshaw)Othel E. (Sally Orshaw) Metzloff, age 92, long time resident of the Valley passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Elderwood Nursing Facility. Sally was born January 17, 1918 in North Tonawanda, NY, daughter of Louis and Mary Elizabeth Smith.
A Valley resident for over fifty years Sally was a beautiful lady and wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who was much beloved by her family and friends. She gave of herself to her family in many ways and was respected by all who came to know and love her. She enjoyed being a home maker, raising her children and spending quality time with her grandchildren. Sally enjoyed volunteering her time and effort to help others with delivering Meals On Wheels and serving as a teachers aide for the Athens School District.
She was predeceased by her husbands Larry Orshaw and Norman Metzloff as well as her son, Sonny Orshaw.
She is survived by her children Patrick (Barb) Orshaw, Timothy Orshaw, Patricia Wilkinson and Cindy (Roger) Lowry, ten grandchidren and twelve great-grandchildren.
A private celebration of her life will be held by her family.
A donation in remembrance of Sally may be made to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech Street, Johnson City, NY 13790.
The family wishes to extend an expression of gratitude to Rhonda Madtes and staff at Assisted Living at Elderwood as well as her caregiver, Dawn, and roomate, Phyllis, at Elderwood Nursing Facility. Funeral arrangements are by the Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly, New York. Those wishing may send a sympathy message of remembrance for Sally's family.
