Arthur C. Simons, 91, of Lockwood, New York joined his wife, Arline Felton Simons on Tuesday, January 31, 2017. Art was born on February 26, 1925, north of Waverly, NY to Hugh H. and Florence Hagerman Simons.
He is survived by his son, Arthur C. Simons, Jr and Terri Rogers Simons of Lockwood; daughter, Marcia Simons Jankowski and Floyd Jankowski of Horseheads; grandsons, Duane Simons and Tina Ford-Simons of Lowman, and Michael Simons and Melinda Lane-Simons of Lockwood; great grandchildren, Eric and Destiny; and great-great granddaughters, Isabella and Savannah. He was predeceased by his only sibling, Donald J. Simons.
Art was very fortunate to spend his life doing the work he loved, dairy farming. The farm, being in the center of Lockwood, gave him another opportunity that was an enjoyment for him, milking time. It always brought the neighbors in the barn for milk and lots of conversation.
Art’s devotion to Lockwood helped bring about the Lockwood Volunteer Fire Department. When the possibility was being suggested, Art was right there pushing to get it done. As there wasn’t money for a fire station, he donated a garage he owned for the fire station and the wood to keep it warm for the truck. Throughout the years Art attended fires, directed traffic, attended every meeting he could and participated in all the trainings his health would allow. He was truly dedicated to keeping faster fire response to the area he so loved.
