Biography

Dolores J. Hammond

Dolores J. Hammond, 88, of Sayre passed from her earthly life into the hands of Our Lord on February 19, 2018.  She died peacefully in her home while watching TV.

Dolores was born in Lewistown, PA on March 22, 1929 to Joseph and Leah Albright.  Her family later moved to Altoona, PA and she graduated from Altoona High School.  She worked briefly at a Defense Plant in Altoona making tubes for submarines during WWII.  She also worked in the office of the McCrory store in Altoona where she caught the eye of her future husband, Charles Hammond.  They were married on July 14, 1951.

Dolores and Charles were blessed with seven children and Dolores was a very busy stay at home Mom.  She did find the time to be a den mother to her son’s Cub Scout unit and also, volunteered in the cafeteria of St. Gabriel’s School in Hazleton.  While raising seven children Dolores obviously dealt with many interesting situations and adventures.  She always did so with much grace, patience and a wonderful sense of humor which she displayed up to death.

Dolores resided in Sayre for the past 43 years.  She enjoyed many Volunteer activities such as working the gift shop at the Robert Packer Hospital and assisting her husband with some of his many volunteer endeavors.  Dolores was also a woman of deep catholic faith and a devoted member of Epiphany Parish.  She was proud to be one of the first Adorers when the Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament began at Epiphany church and also served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years.  Dolores also participated in many Pro-Life events and marches with her husband.

Dolores is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Leah Albright, three siblings and the love of her life, Charles, who died on November 25, 2016.

She is survived by her seven children, Sharon Korba (Dennis) of Exeter, Linda Thomas (Dennis) of Waverly, Chuck (Dawn) of Athens, Mary Jane Bloss (Steve) of Sayre, her primary care giver, Jim (Maureen) of Waverly, Joe of Athens, and Jeff of Mt. Joy, PA, 10 grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren and her beloved cat, Mickey.

A time of calling will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018 from 4 to 6 PM at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly, NY.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 9:30 AM at Church of the Epiphany, 304 N.
