Edna Eileen Driskill passed away in her sleep after a long illness on December 2, 2019, at the age of 87. She resided in Catonsville, Maryland at the time of her death.
Edna was born in 1932 to Norwegian parents in Sayville, Long Island, NY, where she lived until she left home for nursing school in New York City. Edna met her husband, Thomas Driskill, while at nursing school. Thomas was also a nursing student at another hospital in NYC. They were married in 1954 at her parent’s home in Sayville. Edna was predeceased by her parents, Salmon and Laura Jorgensen, and by her three sisters Elsie Fuzia, Lillian Puntervold, and Helen Jorgensen. Edna was also predeceased by her devoted husband Thomas and her sweet grandson Sean.
Edna is survived by her four loving children, Steven and wife Cathy Driskill, with children Ian, Timothy and Leigh Ann of Jacksonville, FL; Carolyn with son Casey of Halethorpe, MD; Jeanette with husband Greg Molnar, of Hermosa Beach, CA; Philip and wife Sue of Newberg, IN with children Patrick, Brianne, and Grace. Edna also has several wonderful great- grandchildren.
Edna was a registered nurse and enjoyed working with the elderly in positions at several nursing homes, where she was Director of Nursing and, later in life, facility charge RN. She also worked as Director of Nursing at several hospitals, and enjoyed Labor and Delivery nursing. Edna was active in her church and involved in volunteer service thru her churches. She was very artistic. She knitted, crocheted, embroidered and sewed her entire life, and she taught these skills to her children and others in volunteer classes. Edna also loved making ceramic artwork, painting free handed scenes on vases, lamps and ginger jars. She had a green thumb and grew the annual family vegetable garden with great success. Edna was a wonderful cook and baker, and made breads, preserves and canned her vegetables. Edna lived in many cities and states during her lifetime. She loved driving trips, bird watching, and vacations to new places.
Edna found great happiness in insignificant details. To sum Edna’s life: “Forest peace, sharing vision, always optimistic.” Dr. Jane Goodall
Edna will be interred beside her husband at the North Barton Cemetery, in Barton, NY, in the spring of 2020 by Blauvelt Funeral home. Donations may be made in Edna’s memory to the American Heart Association, to help fight heart disease and stroke at 1-800-AHA-USA1.
To the family, my heartfelt condolences for your loss. Please find comfort in the knowledge that God promises to end all suffering. Before long, God will wipe out every tear from our eyes, and “death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things (will) have passed away.”(Rev. 21:1-5). May this promise from God give you comfort now and a real hope for the future. My deepest sympathy.
