George H. Baker, 81 of Waverly passed away on Friday, December 23, 2017 at Elderwood at Waverly.
He was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Theresa Baker; foster parents, John and Margaret Dyring; sister, Jane Heneham; brother, Willis Baker; daughter-in-law, Barbara Baker; and son-in-law, Lonnie Blakeman.
George is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sarah Baker of Waverly; children, Mike Baker of Waverly, Cathy (Jon) Schweiger of Waverly; and Shirley (Craig) Blakeman-Kopatz of Athens; brothers, Bob Baker of CT, Carl (Chris) Baker of FL; grandchildren, Peggy (Dave), Jonathan, Becky (Coby), Kristi (PJ), Colby and Kaitlyn; great grandchildren, Glulia, Anthony, Savannah, Irys, Alethea, and Gabriella; foster siblings, Shelby, Pat, Carol, Richard and Penrose; along with nieces, nephews and cousins.
George retired from Newberry’s in Sayre after 35 years as assistant manager and ran a ceramic business for many years. He enjoyed hunting and collecting Avon bottles. He was a member of the Waverly Senior Citizens group. Everyone knew George and he always had a smile on his face. He was a gentleman and was kind to everyone. His passion in life was his family, especially the pride and joy he had for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A time of calling will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017 from 11 to 1 PM at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly, New York. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly with Rev. Cindy Schulte officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Riverside Cemetery in Belfast, New York.
