George A. Whitfield Jr., 76, of Waverly passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
He was predeceased by his parents, George A. and Mary Martin Sr.; siblings, two twin brothers, sisters, Emma Lou, Sarah Googe and Helen Ward.
George is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Whitfield of Waverly; children, Tresa (Tom) Keifer of Minersville, PA, Tammy Vankeuren of Waverly, Tonya (Tom) Stamm of Fleetwood, PA and Seth Whitfield of Barton; five grandchildren, Bradley, Amber, Harley, Jack and Gage; nine great grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
George was born in Ocala Florida and went on to graduate in 1962 from Ocala High School. Two months after graduation he joined the Air Force and spent 20 years of active duty, retiring in 1982 as a Tech Sargent. After retiring he worked for a few years as a bus driver for the Waverly School District and worked at the Waverly bus garage. He enjoyed collecting coins, watching NASCAR, M.A.S.H and Andy Griffith. He was also a Ham Radio Operator talking to friends all over the country.
