Biography

Jerome "Jerry" V. Gentile Jr.

Jerome “Jerry” V. Gentile Jr, 65, of Spencer passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, New York.

He was predeceased in life by his mother, Elsie Mae Gentile; and his grandson, Jacob Thomas.

Jerry is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Karen (Whitmarsh) Gentile; five sons, Kevin (Korrine), Scott, Jeremy, Jason (Abby), and David; his father and step-mother, Jerry Sr. and Eileen Gentile; sister, Debbie (Chris) Dwyer; and brother, Richard (Lynne) Gentile; his 13 grandchildren, Kaed, Kai, Brianna, Dominic, Lindsey, Sophia, Blaine, Chase, Ella, Kendall, Madelyn, Mason, and Isabella. Jerry also has many sister and brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends he called family. He loved his family very much, especially his children and grandchildren. They always came first in his life and he would do anything he could to help them.

Jerry was a graduate of Spencer-VanEtten High School, class of 1974. He recently retired from Cornell University after 30+ years of service. He loved the outdoors, hunting and enjoyed sports of all kinds. He especially enjoyed high school and college sports and absolutely loved watching his sons’ play when they were in school. He was an avid NASCAR fan as well as a die-hard Syracuse University fan.

Jerry had many friends and loved spending time with them. He never met a person he couldn’t talk to. Jerry had a very generous heart and was always willing to help anyone who needed it.  He will be dearly missed.
