Joseph Sheehan Sturzen Sr. devoted Husband, Father and Son passed away on Saturday December 30, 2017 with his loving family by his side.
Joseph was born on May 2, 1957 in Troy Pennsylvania.
Joe was predeceased by his father, David Sturzen; brother, Daniel Sturzen; maternal grandfather, Joseph Sheehan; maternal grandmother, Marie Slagle Sheehan; paternal grandfather, Otto Sturzenegger; and paternal grandmother, Cornelia Simmons Sturzenegger.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Mary Cassetta Sturzen; sons, Joseph Sturzen Jr. of Athens and James Sturzen of South Waverly; mother, Annette Sheehan Sturzen of Towanda: sister-in law, Patricia Sturzen of French Asylum; sister-in-law, Susan Cassetta Giordano of Towanda; sister-in-law and brother–in-law, Pattricia Cassetta Drake and Robert Drake of Big Flats, NY; nephew, Daniel Sturzen III (Jeannie DeRick Sturzen) of Huntington, IN; nephew, Jeffrey Sturzen (Julie Rosenberry Sturzen); niece, Melinda Sturzen Cheresnowsky (Michael Cheresnowsky) of Port Huenme, CA; niece, Lisa Giordano Ammerman and Donald Ammerman of Towanda; nephew, Michael Giordano (Danielle Smith Giordano) of E. Shohola, PA ; niece, Lauren Giordano (Jeff Myers) of Ulster along with many grand nieces and nephews, special family and friends.
Joseph attended Towanda High School and graduated in 1975 and went to college in Syracuse where he received an associate’s degree in business administration.
Joe was a well-known second generation business man. Joe was president and CEO of Sturzen Furniture, Inc., which he has been involved in for 43 years. He was well known and loved by all of his friends, employees and customers. Joe was always there for his family, friends and customers, he was a willing to help anyone in need. Joe loved spending time with his family. He was an avid sports fan, always cheering on his favorite teams. He was an avid Nascar fan and attended many races. He liked spending time at his cabin where he enjoyed many outdoor activities.
A time of calling will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 5 to 7 PM at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly, New York. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Epiphany, 304 S. Elmer Ave., Sayre, PA with Rev. Andrew S. Hvozdovic officiating.
