Biography

Leona Ellen Dove

Leona Ellen Dove, 101 of Auburn, formerly of Waverly passed away on Monday, December 26, 2016 at Finger Lakes Center for Living in Auburn.

She was predeceased by her parents, Jonathon and Tessie Vanderpool Morningstar; husband, Percy E. Dove; nine brothers and four sisters.

Leona is survived by her children, Gwen (Robert) Crandell of Port Byron, and Richard (Judy) Dove of Addison; step-daughter, Joyce Herrmann of Winter Haven, Flordia; sister, Gladys Palmer of Vestal; eight grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Leona lived in the Valley for 90 years.  She was married to Percy for 53 years.  She was a member of the Waverly United Methodist Church in Waverly for 75 years and was a Girl Scout leader in Waverly for 40 plus years.  Leona loved crafting and gardening. 

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2016 from 10 to 12 PM at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly.  Funeral services will be held immediately following on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 12:00 PM at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly with Rev. Anne Bey Canfield officiating.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Glenwood Cemetery in Waverly.  Memorial donations may be made in Leona’s name to the local Girl Scouts, Waverly United Methodist Church or the Finger Lakes Center for Living, 20 Park Street, Auburn, NY  13021.  Those wishing to send a private message of sympathy to the family may do so by visiting our Facebook page or in “Obituaries” at www.blauveltfuneralhome.com
