Marilyn Rae Wood, 78 passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 17, 2015 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 22, 1937 in West Bloomfield NY, Marilyn was the daughter of the late Leon and Gertrude Hayton.
Marilyn was a lifelong resident of the valley coming to South Waverly with her family at a very young age. She raised six children and still managed to have a career as a nurse’s aid starting out at the Tioga Nursing home, lasting 35 years and continued to work with elderly folks in their homes. When it came to Marilyn’s residents her compassion outweighed her day to day duties.
Always out and about Marilyn enjoyed stopping by the VFW and American Legion to play some tickets and enjoy conversation with other members. Having children living in FL she spent time there and enjoyed calling home letting everyone know how nice the warm weather felt.
Marilyn is survived by her brother Leon (Sharon) Geil of N.H. Her children Chris (Donna) Sandroni of Mount Dora, FL, Leon (Debra) Sandroni of Deltona, FL , Paul (Michele) Wood of Waverly, NY, Yvonne (Frank) Britt, of Winter Haven, FL, Douglas (Donna) Wood of Waverly, NY. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Marilyn was predeceased by her oldest son Louis Sandroni in 1999.
A time of gathering with family and friends will be from 10:00 A.M. to11:00 A.M., Monday, September 21, 2015, at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly, New York.
