Mary K. Standish

Mary K. Standish, 58, lost her battle to cancer on Thursday, May 4, 2017 in Spencer, New York.

Mary was born on March 31, 1959 in Cortland to her parents, Richard and Evelyn Marvin.  She graduated from Marathon Central School in 1977 and later was an employee of Cortland Park Rehabilitation Center for a period of time as a cook.

Mary was a loving daughter, sister, mother and grandmother.  Mary was treasured, adored and loved spending time with her grandchildren and her love, Frank Lawson of Monroe, New York.  She spent a lot of time enjoying the outdoors with him, whether it was fishing, or simply enjoying the fresh air.  She recently enjoyed a trip with her family to the Outer Banks in North Carolina.  Her family and friends will always remember her as a loving and caring person who put everyone else first.

She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Standish and sister, Donna Bell.

Mary is survived by her parents, Richard and Evelyn Marvin of Marathon; her daughter, Katrina (Roger) Asay of Spencer; her son, Brandon Standish of Marathon; her brothers, David (Donna) Meade of Weedsport, and Gregory Marvin of Cortland; her sisters, Nancy (Stephen) Moore of Marathon, and Allison (Gordon) Yerdon of Kirkwood; two granddaughters, Annabella Asay and Skylynn Standish; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will hold a memorial celebration of Mary’s life on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at the Marathon Fire Station at 1:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spencer Emergency First Aid Squad, 47 W. Tioga Street, Spencer, NY  14883 or Marathon Fire Department, 2 Peck St., Marathon, NY 13803.  The family would like to thank everyone for their calls and support during this difficult time, Pastor Jim Owens from Calvary Baptist Church in Harford, Spencer Emergency Squad and Blauvelt Funeral Home of Waverly for their assistance and compassion in making the arrangements.
