Michael Alexander Volpe

Michael Alexander (Alex) Volpe died unexpectedly on June 7, 2015.  He was the son of Julie Rae Volpe and Mark E. DeLill.  Alex was a senior expected to graduate from Waverly High School.  He was accepted and enrolled at Morrisville State College in the Renewable  Energy Program, and had accepted the invitation to be a member of the Morrisville Mustang Football “family”.

Alex was a gregarious, friendly and fun loving young man whose entrance into a room rarely went unnoticed.  He had tremendous love for his family and was fiercely loyal to his friends, teammates and loved ones.  Alex loved all athletics and participated in basketball, baseball, and football – even coaching the Powder Puff Squad.  Football was his passion and Jason Miller, his coach, played an important role in Alex’s life as a teacher, mentor and role model.

Alex will be remembered as a compassionate, fun-loving, happy young man and a “stand-up guy”.  He was a loving son, brother, cousin, grandson, great-grandson, nephew and friend.

Alex was predeceased by his uncles Alex Wayne Volpe and Robert William DeLill, grandmother Clarabelle Palmer DeLill, and great grandparents Ray and Edith Robbins and Gerald Volpe.

Alex is survived by his parents; sister, Carly Volpe; brothers, Nathan Volpe and Mark Connor; grandparents, Wayne and Dawn Volpe; grandfather, Robert W. DeLill; great grandmother, Patricia Volpe, Tammy Stilson; aunts and uncles, Beth and Quent Strandburg, Scott and Julie DeLill, Heather DeLill, Gail Straub-DeLill, Jeannie Fritzman, Robin Stroman, Nancy, Mike and Vanessa LaDue; numerous cousins; and countless friends, including Brandon Bostwick, Wally Heinzelman, and Jordan Raupers, who held a special place in his heart.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 4-7pm at the Waverly High School auditorium.  A memorial service will be held On Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 7:00 immediately following calling hours.   In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Alex Volpe Memorial Award fund, which will be awarded to a senior student athlete pursuing a college education.   Donations can be sent to First Citizens Community Bank, Attn: Alex Volpe Memorial Award, 306 W.
