Michael Edward Melella, 56, passed away unexpectedly at home in early September 2015. Michael was predeceased by his father, Charles T. Melella; and his brother Charles Melella Jr. He is survived by his son, Michael Melella Jr.; mother, Felicia Melella; sisters, Pam (David) Jacobson and Patricia (Eric) Roberts; as well as caring ex-wife, Patricia (Bill) Thetga all of Waverly. Left behind are also many loving aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Mike was born in Yonkers, New York on June 30th, 1959 to Charles and Felicia (Wilson) Melella. At the age of 6 he moved with his family to Interlaken, NY, where he grew up surrounded by his mother, aunt, sisters and cousins. As a child he enjoyed doing chores on their small family farm, especially milking cows and keeping up the property. Always a hard worker, he succeeded as a young man in business, working as a carpenter and landscaper. He liked working with his hands, and had a knack for creating beautiful properties and gardens. Later in life, he loved fishing with is son Mikie and teaching him to shoot, thoroughly enjoying outdoor adventures together. Though he ultimately found himself distanced from his family, he will be greatly missed. Those he left behind, most prominently his mother and son, will continue to pray for his newfound peace.
A private service will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a college fund has been set up for Mikie and donations may be made in Mikes name to: Community Bank NA, 41 E. River Rd., Nichols, NY 13812. Those wishing may visit our Facebook page or send a private sympathy message of remembrance for Michael’s family in “obituaries” at www.blauveltfuneralhome.com.
