Michael R. Mattison, 66, of Waverly passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 7, 2018 after a courageous 10 year battle with leukemia. His beloved wife, Paula was with him, as always, by his side.
Along with Paula, Mike is survived by his sons, Michael Mattison, Jr, Kevin Mattison; his adoring grandchildren, Carlee Mattison, Nicholas Mattison, Dylan Williams, Heather Mattison; brothers, David (Deb) Mattison, Timothy (Sandy) Mattison, Donald (Debbie) Mattison, Jeffery (Dawn) Mattison; mother-in-law, Rosetta Nichols; sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie and Frank Stolicker, Luann and Jim Fitzgerald, Pennie and Jeff Akins, and Connie Foley and Gary Tomko; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Mike was born September 15, 1951 to parents, Maurice “Mouse” and Dora Mattison; who predeceased him along with his father-in-law, Paul Nichols.
A U.S. Army Veteran, Mike served his country in Vietnam and was, along with Paula, the founder and co-owner of Mattison’s Bucket Service. Working side by side with his wife and sons, Mike’s unflagging work ethic created the family business that survives him.
Of the many roles Mike fulfilled in his life it was the ones as husband, dad and Papa that he held most dear.
He was a force of nature. A party or family gathering never really got started until Mike arrived. Mike was an avid hunter and life-long NY Giants fan. His greatest joy was his time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren at the pond and pavilion that he had built. Mike worked hard, loved deeply and lived life to the fullest. He will be sorely missed by all lucky enough to know him.
A time of calling will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 2 to 4 PM at Mattison’s Bucket Service at 121 Donnelly Industrial Parkway, Waverly, New York. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at 4 PM at Mattison’s Bucket Service at 121 Donnelly Industrial Parkway, Waverly, New York where full military honors will be accorded by the Valley Color Guard.
