Biography

Miriah Elizabeth Harkness

Our angel was given her wings

Miriah Elizabeth (Wells) Harkness, age 27, of Gillett, beloved wife of Colton and mother to Aiden and Ava, passed away unexpectedly on April 2, 2018.

She was predeceased by her grandfathers, Charles Wells Sr. and Paul Lane; grandmother, Leona Lane; and great grandmother Wilma Freeman.

She is survived by her beautiful family: Colton, Aiden and Ava, of Gillett; along with her mother and step-father, Dawn (Lane) and Robert Griffith of Sayre; father and step-mother, Edwin and Laurie Wells, of South Boston, Va.; grandmother, Darlene Wells; sister and brother-in-law, Nicole (Bortle) and Curtis Teeter of Ulster, sister, Alexis Bortle of Waverly; sister, Kaity Wells of Sayre;  sister-in-law, Mariah Harkness of Sayre; brother-in-law, Taren Harkness of Gillett, sister-in-law, Kate Harkness and her beloved mother and father-in-law, Vickie and Shawn Harkness of East Smithfield as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family. Her nieces, Arianna, Olivia, Sophia, Hilary and Rory and nephews, Jackson and Harvey are especially going to miss their amazing Aunt Miriah.

She was employed as both a C.N.A. at Elderwood in Waverly and as a personal care aide in Gillett and taking care of people was generally in her nature. Whether with her children, nieces and nephews, many friends or with her two giant dogs, Mac and Bo, Miriah would be the warm presence in a room; the loud bit of laughter and ready to give great big hugs full of love.

We all feel her loss. With every hour of the day, we will remember her brightness, the brilliant warmth of her big smile, and especially the way she loved her family.

Miriah was the best mother her children could ask for and it is with the heaviest of hearts that we not say goodbye, but bid a temporary farewell, to one of the best of us.
