Biography

Paul J. Murphy

Paul Jerome Murphy, 85, of Waverly passed away peacefully on February 22, 2019 at Elderwood care in Waverly.
He was predeceased by his parents, Mark and Carrie (Morton) Murphy; sister, Rosemary Barton; sister, Dorothy Evans; brother, Leo Murphy; grandson, Joshua Morningstar; and daughter-in-law, JoAnn Murphy.
Paul is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Barbara Murphy; his Children,
Henry Murphy of Ocala Florida, Carrie (Bob) Morningstar of Ocala Florida and Paul Murphy of Owego, New York; grandchildren, Gregory Gower, Justyn Morningstar,  Ryan Murphy,  Erica Murphy, and McKenna Murphy; great grandchildren, Owen Murphy and Aylin Morningstar.
Paul attended Sayre Area School and then went on to work at Corning Glass works for 16 years. He would love to brag how his work was “Out of this World” and was left on the moon! As he worked on the Apollo windows.  He married Barbara Lorenz in 1959 and started a family. He retired from the IR in Athens, Pa. in 1996 and then went on to work another 18 years part time at the Robert Packer Hospital as a courier/visitor. He had the gift for gab and enjoyed meeting new people each day.
As a lifetime resident of the valley he enjoyed quite times with his wife as they walked their dog (Angel) at the Waverly Glen. Travel was also a favorite part of his retirement. He spent many hours working with his God given talent making woodworking heirlooms for his family and friends. You could always find him relaxing in his chair on Sundays as he cheered for his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. A weekend did not go by that a good game or two of cards did not happen with friends and family around the kitchen table.
The family is very thankful to special friends John and Debbie Santulli, and Romayne Smith for their love and care for Paul. Also all the staff at Elderwood Nursing Home.
Paul always said. "TAKE TIME AND STOP AND SMELL THE FLOWERS ".  We will each day Paul, until we join you one day and enjoy God's heavenly garden.

A memorial service will held on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad St., Waverly, NY with Deacon Michael Donovan officiating. Memorial donations may be made in Paul’s name to a charity of ones choice.
