Biography

Phyllis M. Stevens

Phyllis Green Stevens, 92 went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 23rd, 1924, Phyllis was the daughter of Morgan and Frances Green and she resided in the valley her entire life. She graduated from Sayre High School where she met the love of her life and her future husband, Charles Stevens. They were married on July 18th, 1945 at the Sayre Baptist Church. With love they raised their six children, Tarry (Charles) Rae, Nancy (Andy) Potter, Jane (Richard) Horton, Burt (Kathy) Stevens, Susan (Skip) Parsons, and Michael (Kathleen) Stevens. She was very proud of her 17 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.

Phyllis was active in the Sayre community. She was president of the South Waverly PTA, president of the Keystone Manor Council, and a member of the Bradford County Housing Authority. She served on the election board as Judge of Election. Phyllis was a member of the Keystone Baptist Church for over 50 years, where her brother, Donald, was Pastor. Phyllis was employed by the Ingersoll Rand, Grants, Newberry's, Tom Thumb Day Care, Sayre High School Cafeteria, and also Snyder Elementary School.

Phyllis was predeceased by her loving parents who raised her in a Christian home, her husband, Charles; sister, Betty Earley; brothers, Bud, Bill, Donald and Jeff Green; and sisters-in-law, Doris and Mary Alice Green.

Phyllis is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as her sister, Norma (Tom) Lynch; and brothers, Burt (Joni) and Larry Green; sisters- in-law, Mary Jane, Marian and Patricia Green, Margie and Cindy Stevens, Donald and Norma Stevens, Connie (Scott) Bodine; and many nieces and nephews.

Phyllis loved football, basketball, baseball, track and all sports involving her children, grandchildren and great grand children.  Her family was her life, and she left many wonderful memories and humorous stories for them all to share.

A time of gathering for family and friends will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 5 to 7 PM at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly, NY.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 10:00 AM at The Athens Wesleyan Church, 3903 Wilawana Road, Sayre, PA with Rev.
