Phyllis R. Chandler, age 89, of Waverly, N.Y., and formally of Chemung, N.Y., passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Elderwood Nursing Facility, Waverly.
Phyllis was born July 21, 1925 to Gerald and Florence Estelle. She married Arthur (Chubby) Chandler on April 12, 1944, and spent many years raising her family on the dairy farm in Chemung.
Phyllis will be especially remembered for the many meals that she prepared for the people that worked the farm for her and Art in their younger years.
She was a very gracious and loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.
Phyllis was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need, giving her time and energy to her faith in God. She will hold a special place in the hearts of those lives that she touched.
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, siblings, daughter-in-law Ann Marie, and husband Arthur.
She is survived by sons, Joseph R. Chandler of Chemung, Thomas G. Chandler of Waverly, William and Debra Chandler of Waverly; grandchildren, Greg Chandler of Lowman, N.Y., Jason Chandler of Fountain Valley, Calif., William Chandler and Suzanne Chandler of Waverly; sister-in-law, Rosemary Norconk; special niece, Patty Estelle and her husband Larry Bacon; and several nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
A time of gathering with family and friends will be from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad St., Waverly. The celebration of Phyllis' life will follow the visitation with the Rev. William Wells honoring her memory at 11 a.m. A special tribute to her life will be presented on DVD during the funeral service.
