Richard J. Koons

Richard J. Koons, 80 of Waverly passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2015 at Elderwood Care in Waverly. 

Dick was predeceased by his parents, George A. and Catherine Koons; brother, Thomas Koons; and dear friend, Father Watts.  He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Teresa Gorman Koons; children, Cathleen (David) Wiggs of Waverly, Patricia (Robert) Eberz of Apalachin, Mick (Mike) Koons of CA, John Koons of Chemung, and Thomas Koons of Waverly; brothers, Gerald (Eunice) Koons of PA, and John (Gayle) Koons of VA; sister, Frances Koons of Chenango Forks; 10 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; devoted court clerk, Billie Jo Jennings; faithful companion, sweet pea; along with many dear friends, nieces and nephews.   

Dick was a proud member of the Msgr John J. Lee Division Ancient Order of Hibernians in Elmira, and past president of the Waverly Hibernians.  Member of the Knights of Columbus and retired New York State Police BCI.  Dick was the Justice of the Peace in the Village of Waverly.  He was the chief babysitter to his little buddies Conor and Gabrielle.

Officers and members of the AOH will meet at Blauvelt Funeral Home on February 8, 2016 at 4:45 PM to conduct a service for our brother Dick.  Signed Tim Tobin, President.

A time of gathering with family and friends will be from 3 to 5 PM on Monday, February 8, 2016 at the Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly, New York, 14892. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. James Church, 503 Clark St., Waverly, NY with Rev. Lou Brown officiating.  Burial will be in the St. James Cemetery at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s or Msgr John J.
