Biography

Richard Peterson

Richard “Dick” Peterson, 84 of Waverly passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at home.

He was predeceased by his parents, Clair and Muriel Brown Peterson; first wife, Jane Leonard Peterson; brothers, Clair Peterson Jr, Clayton Peterson, and Terry “Topper” Peterson; sister, Patty Peterson; step-sons, Randy Carnike and Steven Carnike; and step-daughter, Dianne King.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Donna Benjamin Peterson; children, Dawn (Larry) Rumpff  of FL, Dick “Pete” Peterson of Waverly, Harry Carnrike of Williamsport, PA, Debbie (Carl) Wheeler of TX, Penny (Mike) Williams of Flemington, PA, and Jeff (Kelly) Carnrike of Williamsport, PA; brothers, Jack Peterson of TN, Donald Peterson of Lockwood, Ray (Liz) Peterson of Towanda, PA, Charlie (Grace) Peterson of Lockwood; sisters, Joyce Peterson Nichols of East Smithfield, PA, Ellen (Walter “Bud”) Depew of FL; 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson; along with numerous niece, nephews and cousins

Dick retired as administrator of the Waverly Moose Lodge #1490 where he was a life member and was proud to have earned the Pilgrim Degree. He worked for American LaFrance in Elmira for 31 years.  Dick was a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the VFW.  He proudly serviced his country in the Army, serving in Germany and was an Intermediate Speed Radio Operator.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing aka “The greatest trout fisherman on Earth”, playing softball, bowling, shuffleboard and was a self-proclaimed great poker and card player.  He could always be found making his way around the room, talking to whomever he could, he never met a stranger.

 A time of calling will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly, NY.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly, NY with Rev.
