Biography

Rosetta L. Nichols

Rosetta Leonard Nichols, 88, of Waverly, went to heaven surrounded by her loving, devoted daughters on August 18th, 2018.

Born to the late Earl & Ethel (Strope) Leonard on July 26th, 1930.

She is predeceased by her loving husband, Paul Nichols; granddaughter, Kelly Stolicker; son-in-law, Michael Mattison; father and mother-in-law, Celin and Lena Nichols; brother & sister-in-law, Earl & Dorothy Leonard Jr.; sister-in-laws & brother-in-laws, Beverly Cooper, Eva & Charlie Cunningham, Hilda & Herb Erhardt, Dorothy & Frank Wilson and Abram & Bertha Nichols.

She is survived by her daughters & son-in-laws; Paula Mattison of Waverly, Debra (Frank) Stolicker of Waverly, Luann (James) Fitzgerald of Sayre, PA, Pennie (Jeffery) Akins of Waverly and Connie Foley (Gary Tomko) of Barton, NY; her grandchildren, whom she adored:  Michael Mattison Jr., Kevin Mattison, Chad (Shasta) Stolicker, Timothy (Gina) Stolicker, Trisha (Brandon) Meck, Coby (Becky) Young, Nicole Young, Shannon Fitzgerald,  Jeffery (Stephanie) Akins Jr, Marcus (Lisa) Akins, Paul Akins (Mandy Manley), Andrew (Ashley) Foley, Danielle (James) Langland, Ryan Tomko & Shelby Tomko;33 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, William Cooper; numerous nieces, nephews & cousins, and  longtime friend, Charlotte Chamberlain.

Rosetta graduated from Waverly High School, she then went to work at Stine Plumbing & Heating in both the Waverly and Elmira offices.  She married Paul Nichols on May 21st, 1948.  After marrying she devoted her time to stay home to be a homemaker, and what a homemaker she was!!  Always lovingly there for her husband, children and grandchildren  Her cookie jar was always full with their favorite home baked cookies.  Rosetta loved to cook and bake for her family, holidays at the Nichols home were amazing.   She was famous for her peanut butter fudge which was enjoyed by all, especially the Waverly school faculty at Christmas time.

Rosetta was a longtime  member of the Waverly United Methodist Church. 

Our mother was a true blessing and will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Elderwood Nursing home, North Unit, her daughters are forever grateful for their care to their mother and friendships they have built.

A time of calling will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 from 11 to 1 at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly, NY.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly, NY with Rev. Cindy Schulte officiating and burial to follow at Emory Chapel Cemetery in Waverly, NY.  Memorial donations may be made in Rosetta’s name to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N.
