Biography

Roy E. Chamberlain

“Go softly into the night…”  On May 21, 2016 Roy Chamberlain of Waverly slipped away after a brave battle with cancer.

Roy was born in Binghamton, NY to Edward and Marjorie Chamberlain and was raised in Waverly, NY.  After graduating from Waverly High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force.  While in the service he earned the Good Conduct Medal, Occupation Medal Germany and National Defense Service Medal. 

“Papa” Roy, as he was known to his friends, enjoyed to fish, hunt and shoot shuffleboard.  He also was a NASCAR fan and raced his own car at Chemung Speedrome and surrounding local tracks.

He as predeceased by his parents, Edward and Marjorie; his brothers, Lee and Charles; and his wife, Yoann.

He is survived by his sisters Bettylou and Sandra; his son, Richard of Texas; step-children, Jeanine (Don) Ellingwood of Waverly, James (Becky) Decker of Sayre, Tylene (Roy) Rogers of Nichols, Michael (Lisa) Peake of Sayre, and Fredrick (Lisa) Peake of Ulster; and 45 grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was a member of the American Legion post #246, Skiff Bower VFW post #1536, and Sons of Italy Roma Madre post #1342.

“Spike” his family name will be missed and loved in his heaven home.

A time of gathering for friends and family will be on Thursday, May 26, 2016 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad St., Waverly.  Full military honors will be accorded following the calling hours at 11:00 AM.  Burial will be at 2:00 PM at Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira.  Those wishing may leave a private message of sympathy for the family by visiting our Facebook page or by visiting “Obituaries” at www.blauveltfuneralhome.com
