Ruth Emma Dixson, 94, of Waverly passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
She was predeceased by her parents, Orvel and Iva Harrison; her husband of 59 years, Edgar “Max” Dixson; son, Richard Dixson; and grandson, Jeremy Stotler.
Ruth is survived by her children, Donna-Marie Stotler of Waverly, Bonnie J. Dixson of Waverly and Roger A. Dixson of Melbourne, FL; daughter-in-law, Zella Dixson; grandchildren, Kandi Dixson, Kyle Dixson, Andrew Dixson and Gregory Stotler; along with numerous great and great great grandchildren.
She was born on February 1, 1924 in Riverside, New York to Orvel and Iva M. Harrison. After graduating from Norwich High School she studied piano with the Art Publication Society and was a member of the National Council of Pi Mu musical society. On April 4, 1942, she married Edgar Max Dixson and they moved to Waverly in the early 1950’s. She operated Dixson’s Tourist Home from then until 1985. She was employed by the Waverly Central School System until she retired in 1987. She was a devoted member of the Waverly United Methodist Church, being actively involved in the church choir, Alethia Class, organist/pianist for the early church services and various other church activities and fund raisers. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as Grand Matron for several years. She enjoyed music, cooking and family activities.
A time of calling will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 11 to 1 at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly, NY. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 2 PM at Waverly United Methodist Church, 158 Chemung Street, Waverly with Rev. Cindy Schulte officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made in Ruth’s name to Waverly United Methodist Church, 158 Chemung Street, Waverly, NY 14892.
