Shirley A. Mattox

Shirley A. Mattox, 69, of Corning passed away on February 3, 2021 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.

Shirley Mattox was born on January 8, 1952 to Clyde and Symatti Mattox in Elderton, Georgia.  After coming to New York as a young adult she knew her calling was to take care of others and become a CNA.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Clyde Mattox and Symatti Mattox; brothers, Wayne McMillian and Floyd Mattox; and her longtime companion, Jeffrey Dinkins.

Shirley is survived by Rashelle Mattox and her two children, Trevion McGowan and Jaecion Mattox, Angela (Sunny) Goins and their children, Rahmel Baptist, Sunneyah and Jasunney Goins in which she had a very vital part in their upbringing.  She is also survived by her siblings, Herman Mattox, Willie Mattox, Mark (Maryann) McMillian, James Cade, Elecia (Carlton) Bradley, Lenora Brown, Darnell Brawner and Janet Mattox; and sister-in-law, Donna McMillian. As well as a host of loving family members and friends.

Shirley was filled with love, care and compassion for others and it was also displayed in her career as a certified nursing assistant for over 40 years.  She spent her time after retiring with her two beloved dogs, Prince and Aero. Shirley could make any bad day better and always managed to make people laugh.  She will be remembered in our thoughts and always in our hearts.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021 from 2 to 5 PM at the USW Local 1000 Union Hall at 100 Nasser Civic Center Plaza, Corning, NY.
