Stephen E. Mahon

Stephen E. Mahon, age 76, of Endwell, NY passed away peacefully the evening of September 14th.  Steve was a child of God, loved son of Edwin and Elizabeth Mahon, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, teacher, coach and friend.  He was predeceased by his parents and friends Dave, Phil, Mike, Jim and Gary.

Steve is survived by his wife, Susan (Cockrell), sons Timothy and Christopher and Christian Caverly.  He was the proud grandfather of Devin, Kayleigh and Zoe.  He leaves behind his sister Gloria Diaferio, her husband Dennis, and their son Jason; brothers Eric and wife Linda, their children and grandchildren; Skip (Gary) and wife Judy, their children and grandchildren; Rock (Edward) and wife Linda.

Steve will be missed by his dogs, Sophie and Mackenzie, who he lovingly called Blackie and Blondie when they visited him at the nursing home.

After graduating Vestal High School and SUNY Cortland, Steve taught many elementary students during his 36 years of teaching.  He also coached football and track at Vestal.

In his retirement years, Steve officiated high school track, was on the Board of Good Shepherd Fairview Home, and was on the Board of Vestal Dollars for Scholars.  Steve also served on the Vestry at All Saints Episcopal Church and worked in the CHOW Pantry with his dear friend Ida.  Steve also drove friends Dick and Betty to medical appointments and back and forth to the lake.

Steve had a kind, gentle spirit and loved the company of people.

The family would like to thank his devoted sister Gloria, his many friends and neighbors and his church families for all the help and support extended to Steve during his journey through the debilitating Parkinson’s Disease.

We will forever be grateful for the care and love Steve received by his Elderwood “family” and friends during his four year stay.

A time of calling will be held from 12 to 2 PM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church prior to the service.  A celebration of Steve’s life will take place on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 200 Jefferson Avenue, Endicott with Rev. John Martinichio officiating.

In lieu of flowers, because Steve knew the importance of education, remembrances in Steve’s name may be made to Dollars for Scholars at Vestal, P. O.
