William “Bud” Waite, 82, formerly of Sayre, PA, passed away of natural causes after a brief illness on July 24, 2017 in Arcadia, FL. Bud was born in Waverly, NY on May 23, 1935 to Howard J. “Howdy” Waite and Genevieve Donahue Waite.
Bud graduated from Waverly High School in 1954 and served in the U.S. Navy. After the military, Waite became a barber working for the majority of his career in downtown Sayre alongside his former business partner and friend Andy Viselli. Bud retired in 2013 after more than 50 years in the profession.
Before moving to Florida in 2013, Bud was a member of the Sayre Elks Club and attended Epiphany Catholic Church in Sayre. Bud was an avid sports fan his entire life having played football and running track during high school and later even refereed high school basketball for many years. He was a NY Giants fan and could always be found cheering on his grandchildren at their various events. Bud had a positive attitude and good sense of humor. He was quick with a smile, kind word, and quip.
Bud is survived by his children and their spouses: Christi & William “Bill” Douglas of Sayre, PA; Patrick and Maureen [Gordon] of West Chester, PA; John and Tairita [Brown] of Mililani, HI; Matthew and Lisa [Felt] Waite of Athens, PA; and Paul Waite of Royal Palm Beach, FL. Bud is survived by his grandchildren: Eric Greninger of Ulster, PA; Matthew Greninger and fiancé Penny of Sayre, PA; Adam, Mariella, Gracia, Miriam, and Margaret Waite of Mililani, HI; Elana Waite of San Francisco, CA; Zane Waite and his spouse Kimberly of Sayre, PA; Joshua Waite and his spouse Jessica of Sayre, PA; Haleigh Waite of Chicago, IL; Melissa Brouilette and her spouse Edward of Loxahatchee, FL; Madison Waite of Lake Park, FL; and Zachary Waite of Royal Palm Beach, FL. Bud is also survived by eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Tyson, and three nephews and their families of Rochester, NY; several cousins; and companion, Virginia Cole, of Arcadia, FL. In addition to his parents, Bud was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Rosalie O’Connell Waite, in 2010.
A memorial service to celebrate Bud’s life will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly, New York.
