William T. Yanavitch, 82, of Waverly, New York; beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, died suddenly on May 11, 2017.
He was the loving husband of Barbara J. Yanavitch who predeceased him on March 30, 2001. They shared 41 wonderful years of marriage.
Born November 3, 1934 in Leraysville, Pa, he was the son of the late Joseph and Cassie Yanuicz. Bill served honorably in the United States Army as a private.
Bill worked for the Ingersoll Rand Company for 34 years. During his younger years, he was well recognized as an outstanding baseball player. Most of his world revolved around his family while keeping active gardening, fishing, and hunting. Over the years, he further enjoyed dancing, the slot machines, and always telling a joke to a friend. Approximately one year ago, he became a proud great grandfather.
Bill is survived by his loving family and many friends, his daughter, Lisa Y Smith and husband, Stan of Waverly, NY, his son, William T. Yanavitch II and wife, Kimberly both of York, PA; grandchildren, Jonathan Smith and friend Amara Steinkraus, both of Ithaca, NY, “Bear” Smith and fiancé Lexie Davis, both of Ithaca, NY, Vanessa M. Yanavitch and fiancé Kevin Kidd, both of Glenville, PA, Nicholas J. Yanavitch and wife Sara, of Stewartstown, PA, Michael T. Yanavitch and wife Jennifer, of Stevens City, Virginia, his beloved great grandson, Knox of Stewartstown, PA; special friends, Rose Jarvis, Athens Pa and Anita Meyers, Hanover PA.
He was predeceased by his son, Tracey L. Yanavitch as well as brothers, Anthony and Joseph, and sisters, Anna, Catherine, and Mary.
A time of calling will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017 from 11 to 1 PM at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly, NY. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 1:00 PM at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly, NY with the Rev. Sharon Knoell Russo officiating with burial to follow at Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA where Full Military Honors will be accorded.
