Q: I have a burial account with another funeral home. Can I change it to the Blauvelt Funeral Home?
A: Yes. The moneys may be moved. Notify the funeral home in writing (so you have a record) that moneys are to be transferred to the Blauvelt Funeral Home. The moneys must be transferred within 10 days of receipt of your request.

Q: Can I get my money back if I setup a REVOCABLE burial account?
A: You can withdraw the principal with interest at any time. The Blauvelt Funeral Home will not charge any processing or administrative fees, or penalties of any kind.

Q: Am I responsible for paying income taxes on interest earned by a burial account?
A: Yes. It is still your money.

Q: What happens to the money I pay to Preplan at the Blauvelt Funeral Home?
A: The Blauvelt Funeral Home will deposit the money into a FDIC insured bank with Preplan.

Q: Can I open am IRREVOCABLE burial account for myself or a loved one?
A: Only if you are applying for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Medicaid. These are the only instances for which an irrevocable preneed agreement may be established.

Q: Can I get my money back on an IRREVOCABLE account?
A: Money must be used for funeral expenses only.

Q: What happens to the moneys that are over and above the funeral expenses in an irrevocable account?
A: In New York State, The Blauvelt Funeral Home by law must pay any moneys left in an irrevocable burial account to the county. In Pennsylvania the state collects from the estate.

Q: What is the advantage to prepaying a funeral?
A: You can have the peace of mind that comes with knowing that money needed for your funeral has been set aside and that your survivors will not have to worry about how to pay the bill.

Q: I have a lot of questions about funerals in general. Where do I get this kind of information?
A: We at the Blauvelt Funeral Home will be glad to answer any questions you may have. We also have free brochures that would answer many of your questions.

Q: When I call the Blauvelt Funeral Home will I be transferred to an office some place else or an answering service?
A: No. The Blauvelt Funeral Home is locally owned and operated and answers its own phone. We do not use any answering services. If we are not in the office, your call will be automatically transferred to our cell phone, which means you reach us at all times.
